Actress Gina Carano has been under fire more often than her character Cara Dune in the Disney + series The Mandalorian. On Wednesday, Carano faced new backlash on social media for comments she posted on Instagram earlier this week.

According to io9 on Wednesday night, those comments resulted in Carano’s resignation, and a Lucasfilm spokeswoman said of a statement: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Even so, denigrating her social media – Contributions by people based on their cultural and religious identity are abhorrent and unacceptable. “

Disney + had been quiet in the past, but the mouse house couldn’t avoid this final round of highly charged commentary. In one of the posts, the controversial actress suggested that today’s political divide was similar to the situation in Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

Several sources, including Variety, reported that Carano wrote, “Jews were beaten on the street not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even children. Because the story is being edited, most people today do not notice them come to the point where Nazis live. ” Soldiers could easily bring together thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them just because they were Jews. How is that different from hating someone for their political views? “

In another post, Carano showed a photo of a person with multiple cloth masks covering the person’s head, titled “Meanwhile in California”. Both posts were removed from the actress’s account by Wednesday afternoon, but other controversial posts have remained.

On Wednesday, it didn’t take long for the hashtag #FireGinaCarano to do the rounds again, and that was flagged on social media accounts not only for Disney and Disney +, but also for “Star Wars” and Lucasfilms. Several users on Twitter have even reposted screenshots of Carano’s original comments from Instagram.

What’s remarkable about this turn of events is that it comes less than two weeks after the hashtags #WeLoveCaraDune and #WeLoveGinaCarano, which are trending on social media and seemingly drowning out the hashtag #FireGinaCarano.

After this recent incident of poor judgment on social media, Disney was forced to act, and that likely included non-compliance with plans to split off from Cara Dune, but more likely the complete breakup of the character.

Tech industry analyst Rob Enderle suggested that the mouse house really has no tolerance for such things at all.

“Your latest post crosses many lines that Disney will see as major red flags,” said Enderle, principal analyst at Enderle Group, in an email. “I assume that by then she has finished her career with them.”

Extreme commentary on social issues has ended prominent careers in the past, including Rosanne Barr, who is known to have been fired from her own sitcom on ABC, also owned by Disney. Other actors may step forward more cautiously, especially if Disney fires Carano.

“This series of events highlights both the risk social media poses to careers and the growing risk of conservative media misrepresenting reputation and employment opportunities,” added Enderle.

“It won’t be difficult for people to attribute these remarks to historical quotes from Walt Disney that could harm the Disney brand well beyond the benefits it provides as an actress,” said Enderle. “Disney has a tough rule when it comes to being on and off stage – when you’re in public, you’re in the news and social media is public – and maintaining the Disney brand image that is tough on them right now broke. I don’t see she survived this final mistake. “
